Original pixels, or repainted
Hero portraits, castles, battlefields and terrain, repainted at four times the detail, with every tower, window and banner where the 1996 artists put it. Each player chooses in Settings: the original art, the repainted set, or a mix of both.

FAQ
Is it free?
Yes. There is nothing to buy, no ads and no paid extras. You need a free account to play online, so your games and seats follow you from device to device.
Who makes Heroes 2 Online?
Fans of the game, for fun. It is a hobby project, not a company, and it earns nothing.
Do you own Heroes of Might and Magic?
No. Heroes of Might and Magic is a trademark of Ubisoft, and the game's art, music and names belong to their owners. Heroes 2 Online is unofficial and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ubisoft. If you hold rights in the game and want something changed, write to support@heroes2online.com.
Where can I buy the original game?
On GOG: Heroes of Might and Magic 2: Gold, with The Price of Loyalty expansion, DRM-free for Windows. If you enjoy playing here, buy it: it is the game this whole site is built on.
Do I need the original game to play here?
No. Everything runs in your browser; there is nothing to download or install. If you want the original to play offline, and to support its makers, buy Heroes of Might and Magic II: Gold Edition on GOG.
How close is it to the original?
The rules come from fheroes2, the open-source Heroes II engine, and are checked against it. The game is still being built: most of the adventure map, towns and battles are in, and a few rarer objects and rules are still being ported.
Is there ranked play?
Yes. Ranked 1v1 pairs you with a player near your rating. You play a few placement games, then climb tiers from Bronze to Grandmaster over each season, with a leaderboard and your tier shown on your avatar.
Can I play against the computer?
Yes. Any kingdom in a game can be computer-controlled, so you can play alone, with friends against the computer, or any mix.
